Running & Reading Club Coach/Youth Mentor

The R&R program addresses the need for enhanced literacy and physical activity among children experiencing poverty/deprivation in the communities it services. The R&R clubs are for children in grades 1-6. About the opportunity: - Once a week, after-school - ~2 hours/session (October to December, January to May) - Facilitate games, exercise & running activities - Facilitate one-on-one and/or group discussions - Read stories - Build meaningful connections and have fun! Description: The Friends of the Penitentiary Museum not-for-profit organization is seeking new volunteer Board members to actively participate in Board functions and be willing to undertake ad hoc projects on occasion. The Board is comprised of up to eleven members, including President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Gift Shop Manager and Directors-at-Large. The Friends organization works in partnership with Correctional Service of Canada to help run Canada's Penitentiary Museum. The Friends also raise funds, through various activities, for the exclusive benefit of the Museum. The organization also promotes the continuing development of the Museum, community awareness and marketing of the Museum, and broadening our support base. We are looking for people who are interested in being part of a team, will share our enthusiasm for the Museum & its operation, and will undertake projects that help the Museum. Experience with a museum setting is not necessary, but an interest in history is beneficial. Site Lead - Relay For Life

Description: Community Connectors Training is an initial session designed to help you learn how to help others by “signposting” them to information. You will become better equipped to direct friends, family, and neighbours to support in your community that might help improve their health or wellbeing. Why does this matter? Having weak social connections carries health risks. Tackling loneliness and social isolation is the real focus of our project. Connectors have the power to make a huge difference in our community. Caring for others is everyone’s responsibility, not just that of healthcare professionals.
