Sponsorship Coordinator-Walk to End ALS

Description: We are looking for a volunteer Sponsorship Coordinator to join ALS Canada’s Walk Committee Kingston. As the Sponsorship Coordinator, you will work with ALS Canada staff and volunteers to secure sponsorship locally, with a goal as set out in the budget and support the overall execution of the event on June 21st, 2021, celebrating Global ALS Awareness Day. Walk to End ALS The Walk to End ALS is the largest volunteer-led fundraiser for ALS Societies across Canada. It is a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate hope for a future without ALS, honour those we have loved and lost, and show support for the 3,000 Canadians and their families living with the disease. Fundraising efforts and donations from the Walk support the best ALS research in the country and enable ALS Societies to provide community-based support to people and families living with the disease. What You’ll Do • Approach, establish and maintain local sponsor partnerships (cash and in-kind prizing) • Ensure that sponsorship agreements are upheld • Ensure all sponsors are recognized before and during the event • Secure securing prizing and fulfillment for the silent auction • Utilize personal networks to develop potential partnerships, sponsorships and event participation • Attend committee meetings and participate in a post-event evaluation meeting • Establish and build a strong, effective and a constructive working relationship with staff leads and committee members • Participate in the Walk to End ALS’ 21 days challenges • Act as an ambassador for the cause and organization What We are Looking For • Excellent organizational and leadership skills • Strong understanding of fundraising • Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills • Experience supporting charity fundraising events; experience with charity walk events an asset • Willingness to leverage personal networks to develop partnership and sponsorship opportunities • Previous experience volunteering as a part of a not for profit committee an asset • Strong English written and verbal communication abilities • Experience working with people with diverse backgrounds • Interest in working with and supporting individuals and families affected by ALS • Ability to commit 4 hours monthly and attend 2-hour bi-monthly meetings and additional meetings closer to the event as required Join Us Today Visit our website (www.als.ca/get-involved/volunteer/) to submit a volunteer application to volunteer@als.ca. Student Links Mentor

Description: Seeking Virtual Youth Mentor - Landscaping/Construction Are you passionate about lawn care and landscaping? Do you have access to and the ability to show how to use such equipment? We currently have a young man who is interest ing in learning more about landscaping and construction. We would love to connect him with someone who could show him how to use different pieces of equipment, explain their purpose and share a love of the outdoors – all via video. Student Links is an initiative by Community Living Ontario. Student Links is a program specifically for students between the ages of 14-21. Our goal is to promote inclusiveness for students who have a disability. We match students with a mentor in their community with whom they share common interests. Students are provided with an opportunity to explore a role based on the their passions and interests, practice hard and soft skills and network. This can helps students to form decisions about the choices available to them upon graduation. The role of a mentor is a highly rewarding one, and can take many forms. I seek people who are passionate about their work, and those who want to share their expertise with someone who might not otherwise be exposed to such experiences. There is no requirement in terms of time commitments. A mentorship is formed with the help of the Program Coordinator and can take many forms depending on the availability of the mentor and student. Please note - normally mentor-student matches are done in-person, however due to the current COVID restrictions, we are connecting students and mentors virtually. Treasurer - Kingston School of Art Board of Directors

Description: The Kingston School of Art (KSOA) is a non-profit charitable organization. Formed in 1994 and governed by a community-based volunteer Board of Directors, KSOA is supported by fundraising, student fees, donations and grants. Its mission is to provide cost-effective year-round art classes, have studio-based hands-on instruction and provide practical artistic experiences. Through the creation of an inclusive and supportive environment, KSOA art space encourages artistic individuality and innovation, as well as cultivates an appreciation of the arts within the greater community. KSOA also runs the Window Art Gallery (WAG), a non-profit volunteer run community art gallery which was established in May 2011.  Treasurer   The Treasurer, a voluntary KSOA Board Member, is responsible for the financial activities of the Kingston School of Art and Window Art Gallery.  Specifically, the Treasurer is responsible for completing, or directing others to complete, the following tasks: Regular bank deposits to the KSOA account with the Kingston Community Credit Union Issue cheques for all expenses Be a signatory on cheques Reconcile bank accounts, Square and Paypal accounts at the end of each month Produce financial report for monthly Board meetings Conduct a budget review half-way through the fiscal year, i.e. end of September Work with auditor in the production of annual Financial Statements and adjust entries in Quickbooks as provided by the accountant at the same time as production of financial statements Present Financial Report and budget for the next year at the AGM Maintain records of all accounts & passwords with regards to financial account & programs Prepare and file Kingston property tax rebate form Issue tax receipts for donations Prepare and file Charities Return within 6 months of year end (March 31) Prepare and file the semi-annual HST rebate application Complete CRA application for subsidies, when applicable Maintain financial records for the number of years required by the CRA Please send letter of interest to: Applicants@ksoa.info

Student Links Mentor

Would you love the opportunity to assist a young person with developing essential digital skills and learning to code? We currently have a young man in the Kingston community who is very creative and loves working on the computer. He would love to learn how to code his own video game. Student Links is an initiative by Community Living Ontario. Student Links is a program specifically for students between the ages of 14-21 with an emphasis on providing inclusiveness for all. We match students with a mentor in their community with whom they share common interests. Students are provided with an opportunity to explore a role based on the their passions and interests, practice hard and soft skills and network. This can help students to form decisions about the choices available to them upon graduation. The role of a mentor is a highly rewarding one, and can take many forms. I seek people who are passionate about their work, and those who want to share their expertise with someone who might not otherwise be exposed to such experiences. There is no requirement in terms of time commitments. A mentorship is formed with the help of the program coordinator and can take many forms depending on the availability of the mentor and student. Please note - normally mentor-student matches are done in-person, however due to the current Covid situation, we are connecting students and mentors virtually. This might involve preparing pre-recorded instructional videos for the student, meeting over Zoom to share information and answer questions, or setting up a google classroom for example. Our hope is to move to in-person visits once restrictions are lifted. Community Friend

Crisis Line and Support Volunteer

Description: About Us The Sexual Assault Centre Kingston is a feminist, not-for-profit organization providing free, confidential, non-judgmental support for survivors of sexual violence in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington. We provide support to survivors of all genders, ages 12 and up, who have experienced recent and/or historic sexual violence. Crisis & Support Line Our 24 hour, 7 days a week Crisis and Support Line provides confidential and non-judgmental support for survivors. We offer information, support and coping strategies for survivors of all gender identities. The Crisis and Support Phone Line covers: KFL&A, Quinte and Area, Cornwall and Area, and North Bay and Area. The number of crisis calls received continues to rise, demonstrating the ongoing need for after-hours support during evenings and weekends. Street Stewards for Kingston's First-Ever School Street Initiative

Description: What are School Streets? School Streets are street rebalancing initiatives that are designed to create safer environments around elementary school sites. School Streets involve closing streets adjacent to elementary schools to through-traffic for 30 minutes before and after the school day. Vehicles are not permitted to enter the street during these times, unless they have an exemption (e.g., school staff, residents). By increasing the safety of streets adjacent to schools, the fundamental goal of School Streets is to offer opportunities for children to build capacity for independent mobility, and in turn, increase their engagement in active school travel. When and where is Kingston’s School Street operating? Kingston’s first-ever School Street initiative will be launching in September 2021, adjacent to Winston Churchill Public School The School Street zone is planned to encompass MacDonnell St (from Earl St to Union St) and Hill St (from Napier St to MacDonnell St) Two School Street sessions will run every school day, from 8:40am-9:10am and 3:20pm-3:50pm What are the responsibilities of School Street Stewards? Managing vehicular traffic seeking entry into the School Street zone Chaperoning authorized vehicles through the School Street zone as needed Greeting parents and children entering and exiting the School Street zone Addressing questions and concerns from pedestrians and motorists about the initiative Observing children, parents, residents, and motorists interface with the School Street What is required to become a School Street Steward? Parkinson Canada Support Group Facilitator

Description: About the roleThe Support Group Facilitator plays a critical role in the delivery of support services at community level. Once a month, they create a confidential and welcoming virtual space, where people living with Parkinson’s and/or their care partners can share their experiences and develop supportive relationships in a group setting. The time commitment for this opportunity is 3 – 5 hours per month. Parkinson Canada has suspended in-person support group activities until further notice. At present time, all support groups are taking place virtually. Benefits for Support Group Facilitators As a volunteer Support Group Facilitator, you will learn more about Parkinson’s and make a genuine impact in the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and their care partners. You will meet wonderful new people and gain experience in the facilitation of groups, while contributing to the critical work of Parkinson Canada. I interviewed my dad on video in his final weeks. When I asked about his work and finding meaning through helping others, he responded, “I don’t think you can be focused on, ‘Oh gee, I want to make a difference.’ It has to be spontaneous. If it’s not…there’s some kind of egotistical thing going on. That’s a red flag. You hope you impact people on the deepest level you are capable of at the time. Sometimes you hit it, sometimes you don’t. You’re trying.
