Vision Mate Volunteer

Description: Vision Mate volunteers provide sighted assistance to a person who is blind or partially sighted. Activities may include reading, organizing things around the home, walking, assisting with errands, or heading on an outing or social visit. Vision Mate volunteer are not expected to drive, clean, cook or provide personal care for the participant. Scheduling is very flexible, so long as visit times are mutually convenient for both the volunteer and the client.  We look to match you with someone who lives close to you so travel isn't too far. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the life of an individual who is blind or partially sighted.

ElderDog Canada Volunteer Information Session

Become a Shopping Angel: volunteer to shop and deliver groceries during COVID-19

Description: Shopping Angels is a program designed to provide services to those populations deemed especially at-risk for the novel COVID-19 virus that is spreading throughout Canada. In addition to a Canadian branch, there are branches of Shopping Angels in all fifty states and Australia with close to 5,000 volunteers. To help ease the uncertainty, anxiety, and fear surrounding this pandemic, we are looking for volunteers to personally deliver groceries or other shopping necessities to those who may prefer to stay within the safety of their own home at no additional cost. To become a volunteer, please, fill out the following application: https://forms.gle/YgP35fUELGyrkMzH8 Once the application is received, a volunteer will be contacted by a volunteer coordinator and matched to a client that she/he will be aiding with grocery shopping and delivery. The volunteer then receives an email regarding protocol and the client’s address. From here, the volunteer will reach out to the client to coordinate a shopping trip and delivery! Volunteer Requirements: Please be aware that we are updating our volunteer standards to prevent transmission of infection. Volunteers must: be 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. not have been in contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19. have not traveled outside of the country in the last 14 days not display any symptoms of illness (major symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath) wear rubber/latex gloves or a substitute (i.e. gardening/snow gloves) practice social distancing and good hand hygiene   Guidelines/Recommendations: wear masks or alternatives (scarves, bandanas, etc.) when available find a partner to volunteer with (i.e. family member, friend) to ensure your own safety. You may take separate cars to maintain social distancing when appropriate! carry cash change (in increments of $1, $5, $10 bills and/or coinage). If clients are paying cash upon delivery, we want to ensure that they receive their items and only pay the amount on the receipt - with no extra delivery charges or fees. frequently check your temperature to verify a lack of fever before delivering to an at-risk client. Student Mentor for Community Living Ontario Student Links Program

Description: Student Links with Community Living Ontario, is seeking engaged, creative, and responsible individuals to mentor high school student who have intellectual disabilities in a range of interests. Student Links is an initiative that gives High School students the opportunity to explore their interests and what they might want to do after high school through connecting with members of the community and developing volunteer mentorships. High School students with intellectual disabilities are often not given the same opportunities as other students to build skills, explore interests and get involved in areas of interest. This volunteer opportunity can have a huge impact on a young person's life! Student Links in Kingston is in need of volunteer mentors who are interested in sharing their expertise/interest in a range of areas. We are actively seeking mentors with expertise in animal care, gardening, animation, art, farming and car mechanics but are also always looking for great mentors in many areas so if you feel you have some expertise and guidance to share please get in touch! As a mentor, your role would involve thinking creatively about how the student can connect more closely with their interest. Because of COVID-19 this volunteer mentorship would occur virtually and so we are also accepting mentor applications outside of Kingston. We are looking looking for individuals who are passionate about their interests and want to share their knowledge. Mentorships are not just about skill development but also about developing a connection and friendship with a student and connecting them more with the greater community and developing new opportunities. Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) Team Captain

Join our team as Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM) Team Captain and help build a financial foundation for the ASO so we can ensure people with Autism/Asperger’s (ASD-Level1) and their families continue to get the FREE help they need!    Your main duties and responsibilities: Develop and implement a plan to recruit runners/walkers to participate in the STWM (October, 2021) Work closely with Canada Running Series (the STWM event coordinators) to ensure ASO maintains its official charity status and keep up to date about event news/information Engage ASO team members by sending out regular communication to encourage their efforts, and to deliver event details  Coordinate registration, race packet pick-up/delivery for ASO STWM team members as required Work closely with the Fundraising Team to support fundraising efforts related to STWM including finding team sponsors, reaching out to corporate sponsors, etc. Maintain and update ASO STWM database  Work with the Storytelling Team and Marketing Team to discover stories about team members to share in the media and on social platforms Other STWM related tasks    What are we looking for from you: Self-starter with outstanding communication skills both verbally and written Proven experience in event planning and management Knowledge of basic recruitment practices Knowledge of fundraising management and donor/sponsor engagement Well-organized with multi-tasking skills Able to handle stress and remain calm Problem-solving ability Education in Event Planning, Marketing, or Communications preferred Experience working with a non-profit an asset Long-distance running experience an asset   Trainings included: Structured training offered by Canada Running Series Organizational training offered by ASO   Technology Capabilities Requirement:  Remote access ability. Event Facilitator - March Break Arts

Work closely with the ASO Marketing Team to raise awareness about the events and to attract participants Collect basic data from the group for ASO reporting purposes (number of attendees, ages, etc.,)  Communicate with participants about the status of event (dates/times) and answer questions Manage conflicts or disagreements that may arise during the event Maintain a respectful event environment Present pertinent ASO materials and information to event participants. Event Facilitator - Foodie Fun

Walk to End ALS The Walk to End ALS is the largest volunteer-led fundraiser for ALS Societies across Canada. It is a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate hope for a future without ALS, honour those we have loved and lost, and show support for the 3,000 Canadians and their families living with the disease. Fundraising efforts and donations from the Walk support the best ALS research in the country and enable ALS Societies to provide community-based support to people and families living with the disease.
