Opportunity Description:

Student Links with Community Living Ontario, is seeking engaged, creative, and responsible individuals to mentor high school student who have intellectual disabilities in a range of interests. Student Links is an initiative that gives High School students the opportunity to explore their interests and what they might want to do after high school through connecting with members of the community and developing volunteer mentorships. High School students with intellectual disabilities are often not given the same opportunities as other students to build skills, explore interests and get involved in areas of interest. This volunteer opportunity can have a huge impact on a young person’s life! Student Links in Kingston is in need of volunteer mentors who are interested in sharing their expertise/interest in a range of areas. We are actively seeking mentors with expertise in animal care, gardening, animation, art, farming and car mechanics but are also always looking for great mentors in many areas so if you feel you have some expertise and guidance to share please get in touch! As a mentor, your role would involve thinking creatively about how the student can connect more closely with their interest. Because of COVID-19 this volunteer mentorship would occur virtually and so we are also accepting mentor applications outside of Kingston. We are looking looking for individuals who are passionate about their interests and want to share their knowledge. Mentorships are not just about skill development but also about developing a connection and friendship with a student and connecting them more with the greater community and developing new opportunities. This is a great opportunity for you to share your skill, knowledge and develop a mentorship with a young person. We can work around your schedule and develop a mentoring plan that works for everyone!
