Opportunity Description:

Seeking Virtual Youth Mentor – Landscaping/Construction Are you passionate about lawn care and landscaping? Do you have access to and the ability to show how to use such equipment? We currently have a young man who is interest ing in learning more about landscaping and construction. We would love to connect him with someone who could show him how to use different pieces of equipment, explain their purpose and share a love of the outdoors – all via video. Student Links is an initiative by Community Living Ontario. Student Links is a program specifically for students between the ages of 14-21. Our goal is to promote inclusiveness for students who have a disability. We match students with a mentor in their community with whom they share common interests. Students are provided with an opportunity to explore a role based on the their passions and interests, practice hard and soft skills and network. This can helps students to form decisions about the choices available to them upon graduation. The role of a mentor is a highly rewarding one, and can take many forms. I seek people who are passionate about their work, and those who want to share their expertise with someone who might not otherwise be exposed to such experiences. There is no requirement in terms of time commitments. A mentorship is formed with the help of the Program Coordinator and can take many forms depending on the availability of the mentor and student. Please note – normally mentor-student matches are done in-person, however due to the current COVID restrictions, we are connecting students and mentors virtually. If this sounds like something you would enjoy, please contact Sarah Utting at sutting@communitylivingontario.ca or 613-349-2733 for more information on this or any other mentorship opportunities.
