Best Buddies Canada - Friendship Walk Kingston

Description: Best Buddies Canada is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through various programs aimed at fostering friendships and reducing social isolation. In the United States, Best Buddies Friendship Walks are the leading walk in the country supporting inclusion for people with IDD. The walks play a key role in funding the Best Buddies programs. The walks are held at 70 locations across the globe and are attended by 50,000 participants. In Canada, we are excited to host the first Friendship Walk in Kingston, and Michaels, the Arts and Crafts store in Kingston, will be a partner on it. Volunteers must be located in Kingston, ON, and be available on September 29th, 2024, between 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will support set-up, tear down, and other tasks during the event. Molly Brant Volunteer Running & Reading Coaches

Description: Our in-person running & reading club happens once a week after school at partner elementary schools in under-resourced communities. The program is targeted for students in grades 1-6 and is free of cost. The goal of the program is to increase physical activity and literacy levels amongst students to set them up for success as they graduate into middle/high school and beyond. The program is 2 hours long and includes a warm up, running workout, stretching, games, a healthy snack, word of the day and reading/journal time. The students are working towards an end of year 5km race & reading challenge that happens at the end of May/early June. The end of year goal allows them to work towards something and is a great way to end the program and celebrate the accomplishments of the students. Volunteer Food Run Driver

Description: Kingston Zero Food Waste is currently looking for Volunteer Drivers, who are responsible for picking up food from our partner food providers and delivering them to the assigned charity (Estimated to take 1hr per pickup/ delivery). Must have a driver's license and reliable access to a car. Food runs will typically take less than an hour, as all charities and restaurants are local.

Kingston Finance Manager

Description: Reporting to the Regional Director of Kingston, the Kingston Finance Manager is responsible for budget management, collection of receipts, arrangement of reimbursements, depositing of funds, and other finance related tasks. The Kingston Finance Manager will seek to ensure that all members of the Kingston region understand and follow financial policies. Through this position, the candidate will truly be able to help the greater community while gaining knowledge about youth homelessness and skills in event coordination, leadership, and volunteer organization. Kingston In-Kind Donation Manager

Description: DESCRIPTION This position reports to the Regional Director of Kingston. You will be responsible for coordinating several special projects, campaigns, and events throughout the year. In particular, the Kingston In-Kind Donation Manager will work collaboratively on several donation drives collecting food, clothing, hygiene products, school supplies, and other items that youth shelters need. This position also requires the management of the in-kind donation collection and delivery, as well as a team of support volunteers. This position requires attendance at all of the regional team meetings. The ideal candidate will be able to anticipate project needs, prioritize duties and help the organization in achieving its goals and mission. The ideal candidate will be an effective team player and add value to the team by creative approaches to foster in-kind donations. Through this position, the candidate will truly be able to help the greater community while gaining hands-on experience. RESPONSIBILITIES ● Attend regular meetings ● Responsible for all logistics concerning donation drives ● Responsible for advertising the event and attracting volunteers ● Conduct volunteer training and human resource management for the drives ● Track donations and arrange delivery of donated items as necessary ● Work collaboratively within the Kingston region to create sustainable food networks ● Report to the Regional Director regarding donation drive progress, events, yearly goals and budgets ● Effectively collaborate with various directors on the team to raise awareness and funds for youth homelessness.
