OCup #3 - Lansdowne Classic Road Race (Ontario Cycling)

The second new race course this season will be the Lansdowne Road Race. The 14-kilometre lolly-pop-style course is located just 30 minutes east of Kingston, ON and features only 20m elevation with a 4 km out and back section from the start/finish at the Thousand Islands Elementary School. “Same as the first OCup, the Lansdowne Road Race is a great race for beginners and new riders who are interested in racing as this is by far the flattest road race of the year,” Rawson continues.

IAMS For Life Caravan (April)

An exciting new mobile pop-up is touring southern Ontario in late Spring/early Summer called the IAMS For Life Caravan which aims to remind pet parents about the importance routine care plays in the holistic wellbeing of their pet.

Like how regular eye, dental, and doctor's visits are vital to human health and hygiene, routine care such as regular vet visits, grooming and exercise are vital to the holistic wellbeing of cats and dogs to keep them happy and healthy for life.

There will be many pet-friendly wellness perks on-site including:

-A complimentary grooming session for dogs consisting of tooth brushing, nail clipping, ear cleaning and paw and face trimming;
-Preventative health care tips for cats and dogs provided by VCA Animal Hospitals;
-First Free Checkup Coupons from the VCA for pet parents who do not currently have a vet;
-Many other fun activities like a dog run and doggy ball pit and the chance to many multiple pet-friendly prizes!

Aging Well Together: Centre for Healthy Aging KFL&A Launch (Canadian Frailty Network)

The Canadian Frailty Network and its partners are excited to invite the KFL&A community to the Centre for Healthy Aging launch event! Join us any time between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, November 24th, 2022, at the fully accessible Memorial Hall, located on the second floor of Kingston City Hall (216 Ontario St.). This is a drop-in event, and everyone is welcome to stop by when they'd like for as long as they'd like.

The event will include interactive booths by KFL&A community organizations, afternoon presentations, refreshments, and lots of prizes and giveaways! Learn about the Centre for Healthy Aging that will allow CFN and partners to connect older adults living in KFL&A with healthy aging resources, programs, and organizations in the local community. Many of these organizations will be at the event. Topics will include getting active, making healthy diet choices, connecting socially, medication considerations from a pharmacist, how to get the best sleep, and more!

Local organizations attending include the Kingston Seniors Association, KFL&A Public Health, Kingston Transit, Compassionate Communities, as well as a pharmacist, a dietitian, a sleep expert, and more!

Transportation: Catch a free shuttle from the Kingston Centre parking lot to the event to avoid parking downtown. Shuttles will run back and forth from the Kingston Centre to City Hall every half hour starting at 9:45AM EST. Look for a yellow bus in the parking area closest to Sir John A. and Bath Rd.

Accessing Memorial Hall: The event will take place on the second floor of Kingston City Hall, in Memorial Hall. Enter through City Hall's main doors or by using the accessible Market St. entrance. Make your way to the second floor, where the event will be hard to miss on the north side of the building. There is an elevator on the main floor.

Guided Walking Tour of Belle Park (Belle Park Project)

Join us for a walking tour of Belle Park, guided by Dr. Mary Louise Adams (School of Kinesiology and Health Studies) and Dr. Alexander Braun (Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering).
This tour will focus on what we have learned from research in Belle Park and on the questions that are emerging in relation to the proposed remediation of the Tannery lands and the Inner Harbour. We will discuss the social, cultural and environmental situation of Belle Park, a conglomerate of human and natural ecosystems.
The walk will be on the gravel service road hugging the park to the south and overlooking the Tannery lands.
This event is free to attend and open to all. No registration required. COVID protocols apply, so please bring a mask and maintain proper distancing.

Great Lakes and Watershed Cleanup (Kingston Rotary Club)

Join Kaeja d'Dance for an online iteration of Porch View Dances, premiering 16 NEW commissions - short dance videos made by some of this community's amazing choreographers, a participatory Flock Landing offering and a Q&A!

Our ninth annual PVD is reimagined this year, livestreamed on Zoom. For the first time ever, our choreographers are dancing!

Traditionally, PVD pairs professional choreographers with community members to reveal stories of lives lived through original dances performed on their front porches and yards. For 2020, we have invited all of our past Porch View Dances choreographers to bring their own personal stories alive on their porches, balconies and front yards.

The livestreamed premiere of these works will be hosted by Maurycy and will be followed by a live interactive Flock Landing that you are invited to witness or to Dance With Us! We will then be joined by many of the choreographers for a live Q&A panel moderated by Karen Kaeja.

Featuring 16 new commissions by 18 choreographers: Kate Alton, Julia Aplin, Nova Bhattacharya, Barbara Bourget & Jay Hirabayashi, Michael Caldwell & Louis Laberge-Côté, Peter Chin, Lauren Cook, Allison Cummings, Aria Evans, Maxine Heppner, Shannon Litzenberger, Pulga Muchochoma, Andrea Nann, Kevin Ormsby, Kathleen Rea, and tiger princess dance projects.

The Flock Landing is led by Lilia Leon, with Mateo Galindo Torres, Josh Murphy, Mio Sakamoto and Irma Villafuerte.

The event will have live, virtual ASL interpretation and closed captioning.

A (MUSICAL) MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM
Shakespeare’s most popular comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the perfect outdoor summer theatre experience for the entire family. Four lovers and one group of hapless tradespeople experience a chaos-filled night in the forest as they stumble across the mischievous Puck and the magical denizens of the faery kingdom.

“It’s about community, companionship and love,” remarks Driftwood Artistic Director Jeremy Smith. “Dream reminds us of the importance of putting down our devices, stepping away from our screens, and making the kind of tangible connections which encourage empathy, understanding and respect.”

Using Shakespeare’s text A (musical) Midsummer Night’s Dream is a rocking, rolling, funktastic, jazz-infused musical celebration of theatrical proportions; with everything performed live and entirely A Cappella.

Originally created in 2004 and performed again in 2012, A (musical) Midsummer Night’s Dream reunites composers Kevin Fox (The Swingle Singers, Cadence) and Tom Lillington (Nathaniel Dett Chorale, Hampton Avenue) with director Jeremy Smith.

Verona Lions ATV Poker Run (Eric)

The poker run starts from the Verona Lions Centre at 4504 Verona Sand Rd. The canteen will be open 10:30 am to 6 pm for our famous Lions burgers and fries. There will be great prizes for the top three poker hands, door prizes, 50/50 draw, vendors midway and more.
The ride will be rail trail and back road to cover an approximately 80 kilometer loop returning to the Lions Centre in Verona. There will be fun for all. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Kingston Sheep Dog Trials Festival (Sue Hitchcock)

This annual event, held at beautiful Grass Creek Park attracts over 7,000 spectators throughout the three-day festival. The trials are an agricultural sport celebrating our connection to our urban neighbours. Visitors and handlers from all over the globe make Kingston their home for three amazing days of trials competition.

For those spectators less familiar with the sport of trialing, there are many wonderful side attractions to entertain and delight you! You'll enjoy Kingston Police K-9 demonstrations, the Ultimutts Stunt Dog Show, Canine Bark Camp, Horsemanship Demos, and Rideau River DockDogs. Bring your own canine to the trials, and let them have fun at the canine adventure lure course and in the doggie playzone! The Marketplace will treat you to a host of exhibitors with hand crafted items and commercial vendors who have everything your own pets might need. There is lots to do for both human and K9 spectators!
