Opportunity Description:

Volunteering with the Sexual Assault Centre Kingston offers you a unique and rewarding opportunity to join other compassionate individuals committed to working towards the prevention of sexual violence. Our volunteer program is flexibly designed, allowing you to be as active and involved while working around your schedule. Our vital services remain available as a result of compassionate and empathetic volunteers, like you! As a volunteer with us, you will spend time on our telephone crisis line and chat/text support line. These lines support survivors from 7 different regions across Ontario (KFL&A, Ottawa, Renfrew County, North Bay and area, Niagara and area, Quinte and area, SDG&A). You will learn vital skills to provide trauma-informed crisis response care that is situated in an anti-racist, anti-oppressive intersectional feminist framework. Other volunteer opportunities that might become available include but are not limited to: accompaniment support, behind-the-scenes volunteering, and outreach. All of our volunteers typically start on the crisis lines before being offered these additional opportunities. Volunteer Requirements Over 18 years of age; Have not been a client of SACK for a minimum of 1 year; Connection to at least 1 of the regions in which SACK’s crisis line supports; Access to a quiet space when on shift; Access to secure and adequate wifi (Chat/Text specific); Comfortable supporting individuals via telephone conversation & web chat; Flexible schedule and willingness to take a variety of shifts (we offer shifts in the morning, afternoon, evening, and overnight); Commitment to volunteering for a minimum of 6 months (we ask for volunteers to commit to at least 3 shifts per month); Willingness to learn what working in an anti-racist anti-oppressive intersectional feminist environment consists of If you are interested in volunteering with SACK, please click here to submit an application.
