Opportunity Description:

Kick off your New Year’s Eve with the City of Kingston’s K-Town Countdown brought to you by Canada Royal Milk! From 5 – 9 p.m. we’ll be taking over the INVISTA Centre with fun activities for all ages. EVENT: K-Town Countdown WHEN: Sunday, December 31st from 5:00pm – 9:00pm WHERE: The INVISTA Centre (1350 Gardiners Rd. Kingston, ON. K7P 2Y2). Plenty of free parking is available. Kingston Transit also has a stop right near the entrance to the building. WHY:  It is time to ring in the new year! WEBSITE: https://www.cityofkingston.ca/residents/city-calendar-events/feature-events/k-town-countdown ACTIVITIES: DJ Skate Parties Parent and Tot Skating Face Painting & Glitter Tattoos Strolling entertainment (i.e. juggling, costume characters) Zoo-To-You Educational Animal Exhibit ‘Build A Friend’ DIY Stuffed Animals (while supplies last) Original Hockey Hall of Fame: Open for self-guided tours 2024 Wishing Trees 360 Photo Booth Concession stand open for dining and a dining area Stage Entertainment Local Skating Performances Information Desk Second, here are the volunteer roles available. The general tasks are outlined:   Wishing Trees/ Hockey Hall of Fame (2 volunteers needed) On-site from 4:00pm – 9:15pm On the second floor of the INVISTA Centre, overlooking the CUPE Rink, there will be a few “wishing trees”. Markers and glitter star tags are supplied and everyone is invited to write their wish/ resolution for the new year on a tag and hang it on the tree.  The Hockey Hall of Fame, located on the second floor, is open for self-guided tours throughout the event.   Monitor the wishing tree area, keep it tidy and clean Answer questions on how to complete the activity and general interaction with guests (i.e. how is your night going? have you gone skating yet? Help with line-ups Help kids hang their wish on the tree if needed, make it fun! (i.e. tell them they need to spin three times before putting it on the tree, hop on one leg, etc.) Checking in on the Hockey Hall of Fame periodically throughout the night. Ensuring it stays tidy and clean Tear-down if able   Ice-Rink and Tickets (6 to 9 volunteers needed) On-site from 4:00pm – 9:15pm Located outside CUPE 109, MNP, and Selkirk Rinks  Man the ticket table (2) stamp people’s hands half an hour before start time (except for 5:00pm)– keep track of amount that go on the ice, as there is a limit (Ice rink Capacity is 170) Man the extra doors to the Ice-rink and ensure no one sneaks in (check stamp) and direct them to the ticket table Answer any questions that guests may have Remind guests that, if the session is sold out, they can try a different rink or go enjoy an activity and come back for the next session   People Counter (6 volunteers) On-site from 4:00pm – 9:15pm Located at both entrances/exits of INVISTA Centre    Use a people counter to keep track of capacity of those coming into the building Use a people counter to keep track of those leaving the building, to ensure we never go over capacity and have a final number for the end of the night Stay in contact with volunteers at both entrances to ensure capacity is okay Have a final count of number of attendees at end of the night   Build-a-Friend Stuffed Animals (4 volunteers) On-site from 4:00pm – 9:15pm or until supplies run out On the second floor of the INVISTA Centre, in the Fitness Classroom, there will be 300 stuffed animals for kids to make(first come first served, as supplies last) Man the front “welcome desk” with display of what animals are available, ask them to select one Pass them the following items: stuffing, t-shirt, adoption certificate, and heart Help explain how it will work to guests (Further instructions will be provided to volunteers) Keep area neat and tidy, help manage lines and expectations (i.e. let them know how long they’ll be waiting, if animals are running out, etc.) Tear-down if able   MC for Shows/ Front Desk (2-4 volunteer needed, 1 for MC) On-site from 4:00 – 9:15pm Located at the Front Desk of the INVISTA Centre and MC to go to the stage show room in Meeting Rooms C located next to the front desk. Comfortable on stage and speaking in front of a crowd Will read from a script Introduce acts coming up on stage Front Desk, will be provided with event information and building map Answer guest questions Show them where to go Tell them what’s happening at the event Act as a Lost and Found for the event Prize Tables (2-4 volunteers) On-site from 4:00 – 9:15pm Located across from the Front Desk of the INVISTA Centre and on the second floor of the INVISTA Centre, across from the Mini-Stick Arena First floor is a colouring contest basket. Ensure guests write their name and contact information clearly on the back of their colouring page. Second floor is two raffle prizes (adult and kid). Ensure guests write their name and contact information clearly on the ticket and submit in the correct box. One submission per individual per prize. All winners will be selected the first week in January with pick-up at City Hall.
