Opportunity Description:

If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity that’s challenging and rewarding, this is the position for you! Join our team as Event Facilitator – Foodie Fun and help build a financial foundation for the ASO so we can ensure people with Autism/Asperger’s (ASD-Level1) and their families continue to get the FREE help they need!    Your main duties and responsibilities: Plan and host virtual cooking/baking sessions (simple, basic ingredient recipes) Engage event participants by teaching basic kitchen skills through fun kitchen activities (e.g., baking and decorating simple cupcakes/cookies) Work closely with the Marketing Team to raise awareness and attract participants Collect basic data from the group for ASO reporting purposes (number of attendees, ages, etc.,)  Communicate with participants about the status of event (dates/times) and to answer potential questions Help design long-term structured workshops where participants focus on building “life skills” in the kitchen over the course of a few weeks  Help create “easy to make” menus that use simple ingredients readily available in most homes Manage conflicts or disagreements that may arise during the event Maintain a respectful event environment Present pertinent ASO materials and information to event participants What are we looking for from you: Education in Baking and Pastry Arts or Culinary Skills related program preferred  Strong attention to safe kitchen practices (Safe Food Handling Certification preferred) Ability to plan an “easy to make” menu using simple ingredients Experience with event facilitation  Experience working with youth/young adults with ASD profiles Excellent communication and public speaking skills Ability to keep the discussion moving in a cheerful and respectful manner Ability to collect relevant data, and submit reports, as required, in a timely and accurate manner Video clip of cooking/baking may be required for screening purpose   Technology Capabilities Requirement:   Familiarity with Google Meet and other online web-conferencing tools Stable internet connection You will be required to use your own computer/laptop and web-cam   Time commitment: 5 – 10 hours per week    Screening Requirements:  Resume, Interview, Reference check, Video clip of cooking/baking   Duration: Ongoing with the minimum expectation of completing two events (one in March/April, the other in September/October)   The ASO is a small charity with big heart! We don’t receive any government funding and rely on volunteers like YOU to carry out our mission. We operate virtually so that we can direct our money to where it’s best used – providing help to those who need it! All of our services are offered FREE of charge.
